“Do you not see how Allah compares a good word to a good tree? Its root is firm and its branches reach the sky, ˹always˺ yielding its fruit in every season by the Will of its Lord. This is how Allah sets forth parables for the people, so perhaps they will be mindful. And the parable of an evil word is that of an evil tree, uprooted from the earth, having no stability.”

Quran : 14; 24–26.

This is how Allah Subhanu Talah urges us to use good words. The good words are the words of truth, justice and which will call them to the pathway of the God Almighty. Quran reminds me to always use good words with empathy and soothing to the patients and attendants who come for my consultation either in the Outpatient department or in hospitalized patients. Good words will keep the patient’s benefit upfront rather than our benefits. It guides us to be good even though the patients are not good with us. Good and caring words and attitude towards our patients will leave a lasting effect on their minds and hearts. So if at all they require healthcare related suggestions they will come back to us. They may share the good experience of our nature and character with their relatives and friends and become a constant source of referral in the future. It is a well known fact that word of mouth is the best form of marketing in any business and it helps to build our brand. And also in the present world of social media and google reviews the words of the patients are the reflections of our interactions with them. So it helps to build my practice with deep rooted values and helps to grow in different aspects of clinical practice whether it be a clinic or hospital or day care center or diagnostics or even pharmacy. Like many branches of a well rooted tree it helps to spread our practice and the tree which gives its fruits in all seasons. All these branches or aspects of our practice will be successful and grow to the heights of the sky by the grace of Allah Subhanu Talah.

In the same way the loose tongue or bad mannerisms and behavior with the patient will make a negative impression about the doctor, however qualified and skillful the doctor may be. His expertise and clinical practice may be like the tree which may not be helpful to the others with uprooted roots and with no stability and fall over the period of time.

So always use good and solacing words and help the patients who come to us. This should extent not just only in the health matters but also in social , emotional and spiritual aspects.
